Moving In
“Arrrrrrrrgh”

I groaned as I pushed the last boxes into my new room. Of course it was the smallest room in the house, but then again I was lucky to even have been able to be here. Out of fifty girls in our chapter, only eight got to stay here, and most of them were officers. The only reason I even got considered was because at the last minute the chapter treasurer decided to move in with her fiancé.
Me and three other girls had applied and my prayers were answered. I wasn’t looking forward to another semester in the dorms, and this would get me closer to the main reason I joined DKB in the first place.
Popping open the top of one of the boxes, I started arranging my things around the room. It was smaller than the others in the house, but had way more space than my cramped dorm room.
My cell rang, and I grinned when I read the I.D.
“Hey baby,” I purred.
“How are you beautiful?”
I giggled. “Fine, getting moved in. Wishing you were here to help me.”
“Babe you know I would be if I could. Would rather be with you than at a review training for the volunteer firefighters. I have done this so many times I could teach it.”
I laughed, “Then maybe you should.”
“I’ll have to check into that,” he replied laughing as well.
We caught up on what had been happening the 17 hours that had passed since I had last talked to him. I plopped onto the bench at the end of my freshly made bed to take a break.

“So you see her yet?”
I took a deep breath, “Yeah, I’ve SEEN her, but I haven’t had a chance to talk to her or anything. It’s been crazy around here.”
“Well you know you don’t have a lot of time to waste. You need to get in there and gain her trust, let her get to know you.”
I sighed, “Riv, I will, it’s just . . . you don’t understand. I can’t just . . .”
He cut me off, “Why can’t you? You have to start somewhere Lex.”
I rolled my eyes. I knew as well as, no better than he did that I was on a time schedule.
“Hey, I gotta go, I have a lot more to do. When will you be back in town?”
I could tell he wanted to keep pushing the issue, but the irritation in my voice couldn’t be mistaken.
“Friday, I’ll be back Friday.”
“Cool, I can’t wait to see you.”
“Hey Babe?”
“Yeah, I’m still here.”
“You know I love you right?”
“I know River. I love you too.”
I moved to my bed and hung up the phone. I knew the real reason I was irritated because he was right. Because I had to work up my nerve now. Because if I didn’t, I could just run out of time.
